Multi-item lot-sizing with joint set-up costs

چکیده
We consider a multi-item lot-sizing problem with joint set-up costs and constant capacities. Apart from the usual per unit production and storage costs for each item, a set-up cost is incurred for each batch of production, where a batch consists of up toC units of anymix of the items. In addition, an upper bound on the number of batches may be imposed. Under widely applicable conditions on the storage costs, namely that the production and storage costs are nonspeculative, and for any two items the one that has a higher storage cost in one period has a higher storage cost in every period, we show that there is a tight linear program with O(mT 2) constraints and variables that solves the joint set-up multi-item lot-sizing problem, where m is the number of items and T is the number of time periods. This establishes that under the above storage cost conditions this problem is polynomially solvable. For the problem with backlogging, a similar linear programming result is described for the uncapacitated case under very restrictive conditions on the storage and backlogging costs. Computational results are presented to test the effectiveness of using these tight linear programs in strengthening the basic mixed integer programming formulations of the joint set-up problem both when the storage cost conditions are satisfied, and also when they are violated. MULTI - ITEM LOT - SIZING with a JOINT SET - UP COST
We consider a multi-item lot-sizing problem in which there are demands, and unit production and storage costs. In addition production of any mix of items is measured in batches of fixed size, and there is a fixed set-up cost per batch in each period. Suppose that the unit production costs are constant over time, the storage costs are nonnegative, and for any two items the one that has a higher ...
متن کاملA Flow shop Production Planning Problem with basic period policy and Sequence Dependent set up times
Many authors have examined lot sizing, scheduling and sequence of multi-product flow shops, but most of them have assumed that set up times are independent of sequence. Whereas dependence of set up times to sequence is more common in practice. Hence, in this paper, we examine the discussed problem with hypothesis of dependence of set up times to sequence and cyclic schedule policy in basic peri...
متن کاملThe Single (and Multi) Item profit maximizing capacitated lot-size (PCLSP) problem with fixed prices and no set-up
Lot-size problems has drawn a great deal of attention in OR/Operations Management research literature. In their purest form, lot-size problems focus on the trade-off between set-up and inventory costs in generalized production environments. Single item lot-size problems are successfully treated through specialized Dynamic Programming algorithms [10, 12], while multi item problems prove harder t...

متن کاملModeling and Analyzing Incremental Quantity Discounts in Transportation Costs for a Joint Economic Lot Sizing Problem
Joint economic lot sizing (JELS) addresses integrated inventory models in a supply chain. Most of the studies in this field either do not consider the role of the transportation cost in their analysis or consider transportation cost as a fixed part of the ordering costs. In this article, a model is developed to analyze an incremental quantity discount in transportation cost. Appropriate equatio...
